Halloween Kitchen Sink Cookies

These kitchen sink cookies get a Halloween twist with a purple color and festive mix-ins. The vibrant purple color comes from ube powder which also adds a subtle earthy sweetness to the cookies. If you can’t find ube powder, you can use purple food coloring. I used Halloween M&Ms, white chocolate chips, and pretzel pieces for the mix-ins, but feel free to use whatever sounds good to you. That’s the fun part of a kitchen sink cookie! Halloween Oreos would be a great choice, as well.

Mix the Cookie Dough

Make the cookie dough by following these simple steps:

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, ube powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

  2. In a large bowl using a handheld or stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat softened butter on medium speed until smooth. Add granulated and brown sugars and mix until light and fluffy.

  3. Add two eggs and vanilla extract and mix until fully combined.

  4. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined.

  5. Fold in your choice of mix-ins until evenly distributed. I used white chocolate chips, Halloween M&Ms, and pretzel pieces.

Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate the dough for 30 minutes.

Form the Cookies

Roll the chilled dough into balls (using 1.5 - 2 tablespoons of dough for each) and place them at least 2 inches apart on baking sheets lined with parchment paper or silicone baking mats. Slightly flatten the dough balls for flatter cookies.

Bake the Cookies

Bake at 350°F for 12-14 minutes until the edges of the cookies just start to brown. Allow the cookies to cool on the pan for at least 10 minutes. They will continue to set as they cool.

Notes

  • Storage instructions: Store leftover cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. The cookies can also be frozen for up to 3 months.
  • Ube powder: Ube is a purple yam that has a beautiful color and subtle sweet, earthy taste. This recipe calls for powdered ube to give the vibrant purple color. If you can't find ube powder, you can omit it and add 2 tablespoons of extra flour and purple food coloring.
  • Mix-ins: Feel free to change the mix-ins to fit your tastes. Halloween Oreos would be a great addition if you have them!
