Looking for an easy dessert to make with your kids or serve at a Halloween party? These Easy Halloween Pudding Cups are just the thing! Using instant pudding, your favorite mix-ins and toppings, some food dye, and whipped cream, you can create a cute little ghostly scene and delicious dessert all in one.

Make the Pudding

Follow the instructions on your instant pudding package to make the pudding. If you are using Jell-o brand, that will involve whisking the dry mix with 2 cups of whole milk for about 2 minutes and then allowing it to set for 5 minutes. Easy! If using non-dairy milk, you will want to reduce the volume of milk to about 1 and 1/4 cups.

Next, stir in food coloring of your choice. I chose orange and purple for mine. Neon green would also fit in with the Halloween color scheme.

Add any desired mix-ins. I recommend crushed Oreos and mini chocolate chips, but feel free to get creative!

Assemble the Cups & Make the Ghost Design

Spoon the pudding in to clear cups and top with whipped cream.

To make the ghost design, drag some of the whipped cream up the inside of the cup using a butter knife or offset spatula. Then draw on faces on the outside of the cup using black permanent marker. This is another step in which you can let your creativity run wild!

Add any additional toppings you would like - like these festive sprinkles! These pudding cups are best served fresh, but they can also be made ahead and stored covered in plastic wrap in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.

Prep time: 15 MinInactive time: 10 MinTotal time: 25 Min

Ingredients

  • Instant vanilla pudding mix
  • 2 cups whole milk (see notes for non-dairy options)
  • Food dye (recommend orange, purple, and green for Halloween)
  • Optional mix-ins & toppings: crushed cookies, mini chocolate chips, sprinkles, etc.
  • Whipped cream
  • For serving: Clear cups, black permanent marker

  1. Make the instant pudding based on the instructions on the packaging.
  2. Divide the pudding into separate bowls for each color you are using. Stir in the food dye until evenly distributed. Cover and refrigerate until set (based on package instructions).
  3. Once the pudding is set, stir in your desired mix-ins. I used crushed Oreos and mini chocolate chips.
  4. Spoon the pudding into clear cups and top with whipped cream.
  5. Using a butter knife or offset spatula, drag some of the whipped cream up the side of the cup to create ghost shapes. Draw on faces on the outside of the cup with black permanent marker.
  6. Top with your desired toppings. I used Halloween colored sprinkles.

Notes

  • Make-Ahead Instructions: You can make these pudding cups ahead of time and cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for up to 2 days.
  • Non-Dairy Option: If you would like to use non-dairy milk in the pudding, in order to get the same thickness as you get with dairy milk start with only 1 and 1/4 cup of milk and add more as needed. You may end up with fewer servings due to the reduced volume.
